The New York Yankees<\/a> have several paths they could take in free agency this offseason.<\/p>\n If history repeats itself, they will be quite successful.<\/p>\n One of the top names floating is that of Tarik Skubal<\/a> of the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>. Do the Yankees<\/a> stand a chance?<\/p>\n Yankees Prediction Points To Skubal Opportunity<\/p>\n \n Christopher Kline of FanSided unveiled<\/a> his latest rankings of Skubal\u2019s potential landing spots<\/a>.<\/p>\n Of the eight teams he mentioned, New York comes in at No. 4.<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t a bad spot to be for an organization that generally thrives on its perfectly imperfect starting rotation.<\/p>\n But that certainly doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re the most likely ballclub to acquire to veteran southpaw.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would require Hal Steinbrenner and the front office to basically sign off on a blank check, but the Yankees\u2019 ALDS loss to the Rays<\/a> was a sobering defeat,\u201d Kline explained. \u201cThere are cracks in the foundation. Many of those cracks are injury-related and concentrated in the lineup; Cam Schlittler<\/a>, Max Fried, Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rod\u00f3n is as strong a four-man gauntlet as any rotation in MLB<\/a>. The Yankees also have Ryan Weathers, Will Warren and top prospects like Elmer Rodr\u00edguez and Carlos Lagrange<\/a> for depth.<\/p>\n \u201cStill, the Yankees know the importance of depth, especially as their non-Schlittler core ages and becomes more injury-prone. Skubal provides stability and instantly lends credibility to any postseason aspirations. Schlittler-Skubal becomes the most fearsome pitching duo in baseball. Never say never.\u201d<\/p>\n Sobering is perhaps the best way to describe how their campaign ended.<\/p>\n Taking it a step further, the value of depth became all the more clear for the Yankees after their star slugger Aaron Judge<\/a> was sidelined for much of the season.<\/p>\n This forced New York to rely on their younger stars who tend to play in the shadows.<\/p>\n How Could the Yankees Benefit From Skubal?<\/p>\n \n Anyone who has followed Skubal\u2019s seven-year journey through the major leagues knows just how valuable he is on the mound.<\/p>\n His back-to-back Cy Young Awards<\/a> stand as concrete evidence.<\/p>\n Simply put, any ballclub would be eager to land Skubal in its starting rotation. He\u2019s skilled, he\u2019s proven, and he still has plenty of fuel left after his age-29 season.<\/p>\n Sure, competition would be stiff and would probably come with a massive bidding war.<\/p>\n But the Yankees aren\u2019t the type of organization to shy away from aggression in the offseason.<\/p>\n If they see a clear fit for Skubal, they will chase him.
