Call him \u201cCam Skattebooooo\u201d because the Giants turned him into a ghost.<\/p>\n

Skattebo knew ahead of Sunday\u2019s game that he was not going to start and that his playing time would be diminished as a result of four fumbles in the first five games, but he wasn\u2019t expecting to be limited to six offensive snaps (all in the first half) and no touches in the 34-27 loss to the Saints<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got punished for what I did, and I understand,\u201d he said of his fumble. \u201cI\u2019ve got to be ready when coach calls my name. And that wasn\u2019t today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skattebo fumbled with the Giants in field-goal range in overtime at the end of last week\u2019s tie against the Commanders.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t expect to have zero [touches], but I was expecting to not play as much, just like I did,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cThe message is, \u2018Keep your head down and keep going.\u2019 They understand the type of player I am, and I just have to continue to do my job to the best of my ability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Giants buried Tyrone Tracy Jr.<\/a> on the depth chart after his mistakes, including fumbles, in the preseason and Week 1.<\/p>\n

And he fought his way back to score two touchdowns, one a 17-yard catch in the first quarter, against the Saints.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve made mistakes, and I have to own up to them,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cIf that\u2019s what they want to do \u2014 keep me on the sideline because of that \u2014 I totally understand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you make mistakes like that, consequences are to be made.\u201d<\/p>\n

Head coach John Harbaugh said \u201cwe did not bench\u201d Skattebo.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s no denying he went from averaging 18.2 touches per game to getting shut out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was not by design,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cIt\u2019s just when he was in the game, we didn\u2019t call any runs.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Harbaugh told Skattebo about his reduced workload, Skattebo said he replied, \u201cI understand where you are coming from.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tracy, starter Najee Harris and Devin Singletary combined for 14 carries for 34 yards in Skattebo\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid I know it was going to go from 50 snaps to [six] snaps? No,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cIf that\u2019s what it is, that\u2019s what it is.
