{"id":376869,"date":"2026-10-19T14:18:24","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T14:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/376869\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T14:18:24","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T14:18:24","slug":"epa-wants-ny-to-drill-for-natural-gas-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/376869\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA wants NY to drill for natural gas (VIDEO)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">ORANGEBURG \u2014 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin met with labor leaders and small-business owners Sunday to discuss energy costs, job creation and natural gas infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">Zeldin, who was in Rockland County to support Rep. Michael Lawler\u2019s (R, NY-17) energy proposals, which includes the reopening of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, heard from labor representatives who called for expanding the state\u2019s energy sources that could create jobs and lower utility bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">Lawler\u2019s race against <a href=\"https:\/\/caitconley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Democratic challenger Cait Conley\u00a0<\/a>is considered by many to be one of the most important in the country for the GOP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">The pipeline would transport natural gas from Pennsylvania\u2019s Marcellus and Utica shale regions to markets in New York and New England. Supporters say it could supply enough natural gas to meet the daily energy needs of approximately 3 million homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">A Standard &amp; Poor\u2019s study cited by supporters estimated that the pipeline could save consumers $165 million annually in energy costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">\u201cOther states have figured out how to have energy and environmental policies that are able to keep costs down with a portfolio that contains smart energy,\u201d Zeldin said, referring to natural gas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">Zeldin said natural gas accounted for 47 percent of the nation\u2019s energy use in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gds-typography gds-text gds-text-small _gdsMarkdownParagraph_gPFA1_gdsMarkdownParagraph\">Lawler argued that New York\u2019s energy policies have hindered job growth and discouraged manufacturers from operating in the state.
