{"id":376933,"date":"2026-10-19T15:36:31","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T15:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/376933\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T15:36:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T15:36:31","slug":"national-guard-member-shot-while-trying-to-stop-washington-dc-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/376933\/","title":{"rendered":"National Guard member shot while trying to stop Washington DC fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A National Guardsman was injured after being shot while trying to break up a fight in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>The unidentified Guardsman was shot in the leg after rushing to stop a brawl that had unfolded on the sidewalk in Capitol Hill\u2019s Eastern Market neighborhood at around 11:10 p.m. Sunday, DC cops revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The injured guardsman was among seven to eight personnel that attempted to stop the late night dust up. <\/p>\n<p>A man involved in the fight then \u201cpulled out a firearm and began shooting,\u201d Jeffrey Carroll, the Metropolitan Police interim police chief, told reporters.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"41399339\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/2025-washington-dc-increased-presence-145694466.jpg\" alt=\"National Guard members patrol a street at night in Washington, D.C.\" class=\"wp-image-41399339\"\/>A National Guardsman was shot in the leg while trying to break up a fight in Washington DC. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Guard members told the individual to drop the firearm. He discharged a round at the National Guard members who returned fire at that suspect,\u201d the cop added.<\/p>\n<p>The wounded guardsman was shot in the leg while the shooter was struck in the abdomen.
