Mayor Zohran Mamdani wouldn\u2019t say whether he\u2019d boost police presence on the subways Monday after the midday murder<\/a> of a security guard shot on a Midtown train platform<\/a> while on his way to work.<\/p>\n The mayor offered up a word salad when pressed on whether he\u2019d order a flood of cops underground to make straphangers feel safe after the brazen act of violence Saturday \u2014 and the shooter still in the wind.<\/p>\n NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani speaks Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at an event in the Bronx. Michael McWeeney\/NY Post<\/p>\n \u201cI am heartbroken and outraged by this shooting,\u201d Mamdani said \u2014 without answering a reporter\u2019s question about what the city\u2019s plan was in the aftermath of the shocking incident.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery single New Yorker deserves to be safe on every single train, on every single subway platform, no matter where they\u2019re going across our five boroughs, and we know that we\u2019ve made strides in making our subway safer, and we also know that this shooting serves as an incredibly painful reminder of all that still has to be done to root out the scourge of gun violence from across our city,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The unknown shooter (pictured) had not yet been caught as of Monday, police said.
