The driver, an 81-year-old man, failed to stop his car when he was approaching the intersection and hit two cars, which then rammed into two other vehicles, the police added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-12m5bll evys1bk0\">Surveillance footage from the scene shows the car, a white Mercedes-Benz, driving through an intersection and ramming into two stopped cars in the opposite lane of traffic, according to <a class=\"css-povzk\" href=\"https:\/\/bronx.news12.com\/9-hurt-3-critically-after-car-strikes-pedestrians-and-other-cars-in-allerton\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">video obtained by News 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-12m5bll evys1bk0\">Valenzuela Rodr\u00edguez, 60, the owner of Empanadas Monumental, saw the wreck from outside of his store on Allerton Avenue. The Mercedes was initially traveling in the correct lane, Mr. Rodr\u00edguez said, and it appeared to be slowing before it lost control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-12m5bll evys1bk0\">\u201cIt looked like he was trying to slow down at first, but then he crossed the lane, and he took three pedestrians with him, and he crushed the people between the cars,\u201d Mr. Rodr\u00edguez said, speaking in Spanish. \u201cIt was so awful. We could hear the crash \u2014 it sounded like a bomb exploding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-12m5bll evys1bk0\">The pedestrians were hit between the cars and were found unresponsive with wounds to the head and body, according to the police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-12m5bll evys1bk0\">Three pedestrians were taken in critical condition to Jacobi Medical Center, a hospital in Morris Park, where two of them, a 57-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman, died, and the third underwent surgery.
