Something you may not know is that Dairy Queen makes its ranch dressing in-house, and if you enjoy it, you don’t necessarily have to go through the drive-thru to ask for a few extra cups to save. That’s because it’s incredibly easy to make at home. According to Dairy Queen employees on Reddit, it only takes three ingredients to make, and all of them are readily available at the grocery store. In a thread about the ranch, one commenter said<\/a>, “It’s mayo, milk, and a ranch packet mixed together. I’m pretty sure it’s equal parts milk and mayo. Our store used 2% milk.”<\/p>\n Other people note that this is not just any store-bought ranch powder<\/a>.\u00a0A\u00a0Reddit user clarified<\/a>, “Buy a packet of Hidden Valley. That’s what we use.” Since the Dairy Queen recipe uses regular milk, it has less of a tangy (and classic) taste than the packet ranch dressing made with buttermilk. While this might seem like a dirty little secret, it turns out that Hidden Valley is a national favorite for a reason.<\/p>\n

Employees of Wingstop, which is particularly famous for its ranch dressing, also use Hidden Valley Ranch powder (though this preparation is with actual buttermilk). Its staff previously revealed this information on Reddit, even going so far as to take behind-the-scenes photos in the kitchen for proof. It’s just a one-to-one mayonnaise-to-buttermilk ratio with the official Hidden Valley seasoning added.<\/p>\n Multiple employees of fan-favorite Jet’s Pizza chain<\/a>\u00a0have also mentioned that its popular ranch has a similar recipe to Wingstop’s on Reddit,\u00a0just with slightly different\u00a0ratios. One user wrote<\/a>, “It’s just the Hidden Valley Ranch packets with double the packets per recipe on the package.” I’ve previously spoken to a Jet’s employee about the ranch dressing<\/a>, and they quietly confirmed that it’s Hidden Valley packets as well. Though it might be a disappointing surprise, it’s still nice to know that if you’re a fan of Dairy Queen’s, Wingstop’s, and Jet’s Pizza’s ranch, you can simply make your own at home using the packet’s instructions (and don’t forget the regular milk for Dairy Queen’s version). Each of those packets yields 16 servings of ranch, so you can enjoy as much as you want at home without making a trip to your local fast food joint.<\/p>\n
