Communities across New York state are set to receive millions for water infrastructure upgrades.<\/p>\n
A total of $500 million from the state budget will be distributed across 14 communities for use in 106 projects. It will mainly be used for improvements to water and wastewater treatment plants.<\/p>\n
“Investing in water infrastructure is an investment in the future of every New Yorker,” said Gov. Kathy Hochul in a statement. “My administration will continue ensuring communities have the financial support and tools they need to protect public health and safeguard our natural resources while keeping these critical investments affordable.”<\/p>\n
The list of grants by region are as follows:<\/p>\n
Capital Region: $40 million to 14 projects, including two grants totaling $6.5 million to the Village of Menands for lead service line replacement and drinking water treatment improvements.
\nCentral New York: $64 million to 10 projects, including $25 million to Oswego County for a regional wastewater infrastructure initiative.
\nFinger Lakes: $52 million to 14 projects, including nearly $10 million to the Village of Avon\u2019s wastewater treatment project that will improve water quality in the Genesee River.
\nMid-Hudson: $66 million to 7 projects, including $10 million to the Town of Poughkeepsie for lead service line replacement.
\nMohawk Valley: $37 million to 6 projects, including $8.9 million to the Village of Camden for wastewater infrastructure improvements that will protect Fish Creek and Oneida Lake.
\nNorth Country: $65 million to 10 projects, including $14 million to Elizabethtown to establish a municipal sewer and wastewater treatment system.
\nSouthern Tier: $26 million to 7 projects, including $6.9 million to the Town of Chenango for improvements that will protect drinking water from emerging contaminants.
\nWestern New York: $67 million to 15 projects, including $4.6 million to the Town of Friendship for sewer improvements that will protect and improve water quality in the Genesee River basin.<\/p>\n
The state says these projects are predicted to create 22,400 jobs in construction and related industries, including engineering, manufacturing and local services.<\/p>\n
