\u00a0<\/a> <\/p>\n New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani further voiced his support for Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed (D) during a press conference on Tuesday, saying electing him in Michigan is of \u201ccritical importance\u201d to the Big Apple.<\/p>\n Mamdani spoke out in favor of El-Sayed<\/a> during a press conference on Tuesday as he was asked about a fundraiser<\/a> he attended for the progressive candidate earlier this month.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just wondering, how important do you see a victory for him as to your own political project in New York?\u201d a reporter asked Mamdani, adding, \u201cAnd do you plan on showing any kind of public support for other Democratic or progressive candidates for the midterms?\u201d<\/p>\n Mamdani replied:<\/p>\n Our movement here in New York City is a movement that is part of something national, which is a fight for working people. When you think about Dr El-Sayed\u2019s campaign, I often go back to the way that he describes it: Money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for all. Those are concerns that ring true for Michiganders. They are also concerns that ring true for New Yorkers. And I think that his victory and the victory of Democrats across this country is of critical importance to our city. Because what it also indicates is a willingness to chart a new course in Washington that has working people at the heart of it, and so we\u2019re hopeful. And yet we also know that hope doesn\u2019t win elections. The action that it motivates does, and we look forward to that.<\/p>\n The battle between El-Sayed and Trump-backed Republican Mike Rogers has been a closely watched contest as Democrats vie for control of the Senate in next month\u2019s midterms.<\/p>\n Latest polling<\/a> has El-Sayed with a slight edge over Rogers.<\/p>\n El-Sayed ruffled some feathers this week when he told<\/a> ABC News\u2019 Linsey Davis that \u201cIsrael is not actually our friend.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch above via IPTV.<\/p>\n
