{"id":378601,"date":"2026-10-21T03:58:06","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T03:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/378601\/"},"modified":"2026-10-21T03:58:06","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T03:58:06","slug":"deadly-shooting-on-george-washington-bridge-causes-upper-level-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/378601\/","title":{"rendered":"Deadly shooting on George Washington Bridge causes upper level closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NYPD said the westbound side of the upper level of the George Washington Bridge was temporarily closed on Tuesday night due to a deadly shooting.<\/p>\n<p>The Port Authority Police Department, which is heading up the investigation, said it received reports just after 7 p.m. of a single-vehicle crash mid-span. When officers arrived on the scene they found the driver of the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was taken to Englewood Medical Center in critical condition, but later died, the NYPD said.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known and no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the shooting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/video\/george-washington-bridge-shooting-investigation-snarls-traffic-for-miles\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">all lanes on the westbound side of the bridge were closed<\/a>, creating a major traffic problem for people trying to get out of New York City.
