Ond\u0159ej Pal\u00e1t opened the scoring and Victor Eklund added his second tally of the season 2:49 later as part of a three-goal first period from the Isles. Pal\u00e1t, Eklund and Holmstr\u00f6m scored 5:05 apart to close the opening stanza.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Anaheim\u2019s Frank Vatrano scored his second of the season to make it 2-1 in the first period and Alex Killorn cut the Ducks deficit to 3-2 with 2:40 remaining in the third period.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Tuesday marked the Isles second straight win \u2013 their first winning streak of the season \u2013 and theIslanders extended their point streak to four games (3-0-1). \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Islanders are 5-0-1 when scoring first and 5-1-0 when scoring at least three goals. The Isles have allowed two goals or fewer in seven of their first nine games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nine different Islanders got on the scoresheet including Matthew Schaefer, who recorded his eighth assist of the year on Holmstrom\u2019s tip-in goal. Schaefer has a point in all five home games with seven of his eight points coming at UBS Arena.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bo Horvat added an assist and the Isles captain has 10 points (5G, 5A) through nine games. Defenseman Matt Kessel added his second assist in four games and the Islanders posted a 20-4 mark in corsi attempts (shots on goal + missed shots + blocked shots) over the Ducks when Kessel was on the ice at 5-on-5 according to Natural Stat Trick. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Ilya Sorokin made his 309th career start which tied Rick DiPietro for the second-most in Islanders history. Sorokin made 15 saves in his fifth win of the season and he’s given up two goals or less in six of his seven starts. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Isles special teams shined once again as the Islanders killed off both penalties. The Isles have fended off nine straight penalties over their last three games and are 25-for-28 on the penalty kill over the last eight games.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Islanders have a special teams goal in six of their nine games this season \u2013 five power play goals and two shorthanded goals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
