{"id":378668,"date":"2026-10-21T05:44:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T05:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/378668\/"},"modified":"2026-10-21T05:44:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T05:44:13","slug":"news-12-bronx-jersey-city-to-add-new-safety-measures-at-17-high-crash-intersections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/378668\/","title":{"rendered":"News 12 | Bronx | Jersey City To Add New Safety Measures At 17 High Crash Intersections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Jersey City is taking new steps to protect pedestrians, with barriers and speed humps coming to 17 high-crash intersections.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Mayor James Solomon announced the turn-hardening initiative as part of the city\u2019s Vision Zero plan to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The changes are meant to force drivers to make slower, tighter turns, giving them more time to see pedestrians in crosswalks.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cPeople have been hurt and killed at these intersections, and far too often it was because a driver took the turn too fast,\u201d Solomon said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">City data shows 1,824 crashes involving injuries or deaths were classified as left-turn or right-turn crashes from 2019 through part of 2026. Those crashes included seven fatalities and 80 cases involving suspected serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The first three intersections receiving the changes are Central Avenue and Congress Street, Summit Avenue and Leonard Street, and Summit Avenue and Manhattan Avenue.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The remaining 14 locations are scheduled for improvements this fall and in spring 2027.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The initiative builds on the city\u2019s broader pedestrian safety efforts.
