However, on Oct. 7, at the invitation of new board member Diane Fishman, this meeting was at the historic Gingerbread House at the corner\u00a0of 83rd Street and Narrows Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BRHS President Tom McCarthy chaired the meeting.\u00a0Among the board members present were Vice President and\u00a0author Henry Stewart, Treasurer John Cassidy, board trustee Jack Torre, a past board president, retired NYPD lieutenant\u00a0 and U.S. Coast Guard reservist; Ted General, vice president of the Society of Old Brooklynites, civic leader and photojournalist; and new trustees:\u00a0civic activists\u00a0Laura\u00a0 and\u00a0 Frank Grassi, a U.S. Navy veteran and\u00a0\u00a0former president of the 68th Precinct Community Council.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"501\" height=\"492\" data-id=\"228617\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Fishman.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228617\"  \/>Jerry Fishman<br \/>Photo courtesy of Diane Fishman<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"438\" height=\"531\" data-id=\"228616\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Fishman-dogs.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228616\"  \/>Jerry Fishman with his beloved pet dogs.<br \/>Photo courtesy of Diane Fishman<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NYC-landmarked house\u00a0was designed by architect James Sarsfield\u00a0Kennedy in 1916. It was originally owned by Howard and Jessie Jones. Jerry and Diane Fishman purchased the house in 1985. Sadly, Jerry Fishman died on Aug. 14, 2024 at age 92.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the items discussed\u00a0at the meeting was the status of the recent sale of the Visitation Monastery\u00a0site, the stolen\/missing bronze Bay Ridge Sesquicentennial wall tablet,\u00a0 future guest\u00a0speakers, dues solicitation, and ways to grow the Society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MTA NYC Transit has announced they will be installing 20 newly designed, highly resistant subway station touch-free entrance\u00a0gates to further combat fare evasion.\u00a0Among the six Brooklyn locations are 36th Street in Sunset Park, Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island, Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street, Myrtle Avenue, Bedford Avenue and Newkirk Plaza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NYC Fire Department has announced Open House 2026.\u00a0They urge everyone to visit your local firehouse or EMS station on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18.
