AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were Germans, French, English \u2026 people from all Western countries who paid large sums of money to be taken there to shoot civilians,\u201d said Ezio Gavazzeni, the investigative writer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were no political or religious motivations. They were rich people who went there for fun and personal satisfaction. We are talking about people who love guns who perhaps go to shooting ranges or on safari in Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gavazzeni said he first read reports of the alleged tourist-led shootings in Italian media outlets in the \u201990s, but started digging deeper after watching a 2022 documentary about a former Serb soldier who claimed foreigners would shoot at residents from the hills in Sarajevo.<\/p>\n<p>He claims a key source was a former Bosnian intelligence officer.<\/p>\n<p>The newly launched probe, being led by prosecutors in Milan, is seeking to identify any Italians involved in the so-called sniper tourism.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37643571\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-1250829868.jpg\" alt=\"A Bosnian fighter shoots out of a window of a Sarajevo building during fightings on June 9, 1992\" class=\"wp-image-37643571\"  \/>A Bosnian fighter shoots out a window of a Sarajevo building during fighting on June 9, 1992. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Gavazzeni said he had already uncovered the identities of some of the Italians allegedly involved in the massacre and they are expected to be questioned by prosecutors in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The Bosnian Consulate in Milan said the Bosnian government would offer \u201ctotal collaboration\u201d amid the probe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are impatient to discover the truth about such a cruel matter in order to close a chapter of history.
