28 Liberty, the building above Fosun Plaza, has a bunch of new retail projects. Places kind of fly under the radar there, since the space is so big underground: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the 14-screen movie theater, is under there, along with Sing for Hope pianos and a couple sports facilities \u2014 and you would never know it from walking by. (Danny Meyer\u2019s Union Square Hospitality Group\u2019s Manhatta is on the 60th floor.)<\/p>\n

Court 16, which opened there in 2023<\/a>, just finished a 7,000-square-foot expansion, bringing the club to 17,000 square feet on lower level 1 and eight playing areas. There are two new USTA-sanctioned 44-foot courts, a Babolat pro shop, a lounge sponsored by Ligne Roset, permanent indoor pickleball courts and specialized courts for its Kids Tennis Academy.<\/p>\n

Starbucks has opened a 1,356-square-foot location on the concourse level \u2014 one level below the plaza. It looks like a normal sized one \u2014 so a bit of a surprise given the Starbucks retraction<\/a> in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Madman Espresso<\/a> has opened a 956-square-foot location on the ground floor. The company was founded in the Garment District in 2012, now has seven locations around the city, and serves Caffe Vita \u2014 coffee roasters out of Seattle.<\/p>\n

I have mentioned Socceroof here<\/a> before \u2014 they opened early last year \u2014 but have yet to visit: it\u2019s a 20,000-square-foot indoor soccer facility \u2014 in this case NOT on the roof, but underground on sub level 1, just above the Alamo. This is its fourth location in the city; they also have two in Montreal and one in New Rochelle. I will get over there to check it out.<\/p>\n

Halo<\/a> is a new a 24,400-square-foot event space that accommodates up to 750 guests. The entrance for that is via a downstairs staircase on Pine between William and Nassau, and is one of the few that is clearly marked.<\/p>\n
