{"id":379078,"date":"2026-10-22T00:46:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T00:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/379078\/"},"modified":"2026-10-22T00:46:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T00:46:08","slug":"driver-arrested-year-after-hit-and-run-that-killed-woman-75-in-brooklyn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/379078\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver arrested year after hit-and-run that killed woman, 75, in Brooklyn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/10\/05\/woman-75-killed-steps-from-her-brooklyn-home-by-hit-and-run-driver-who-blew-light\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hit-and-run<\/a> that killed a 75-year-old woman just steps from her Brooklyn home last year, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>Jose Rodriguez-Duran, 33, was collared almost exactly one year after allegedly running a red light and slamming into Judith Byron near 41st St. and Seventh Ave. in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/sponsored\/lincoln-continental\/outposts-sunset-park-is-new-yorks-vantage-point\/1169\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunset Park<\/a> around 9:30 p.m. last Oct. 4, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and failure to obey a traffic device.<\/p>\n<p>Rodriguez-Duran was driving north on Seventh Ave. and blasted through a steady red light, smashing into Byron, who was crossing 41st St. with the walk signal, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>Byron was knocked to the ground and later died at <a href=\"https:\/\/maimo.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maimonides Medical Center<\/a>.
