A retired NYPD detective was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a Con Edison employee on the George Washington Bridge, according to police.<\/p>\n
Victor Romero, 62, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly fatally shooting 46-year-old Koran Irvine during what police sources described as a possible road rage incident. Police say both men are from Rockland County.<\/p>\n
Sources close to the investigation say Romero turned himself in.<\/p>\n
According to the NYPD, officers initially responded to a report of a single-car crash on the outbound upper level of the bridge at around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Instead, police discovered Irvine unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the rear right shoulder.<\/p>\n
Paramedics rushed him to Englewood Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
His alleged killer, Romero, of Haverstraw, worked at the NYPD’s Narcotics Borough Brooklyn North and retired 25 years ago.<\/p>\n
According to sources, Irvine just recently celebrated his 20th anniversary working for Con Edison.<\/p>\n
A Con Ed spokesperson released the following statement.<\/p>\n
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Irvine’s neighbors say that he will be missed.<\/p>\n
“He had some chickens in the back. He brought us chickens\u2014chicken eggs, actually – to welcome us and he was just a really nice guy. So…we’re in shock and we’re really devastated for the family,” said neighbor Hope Dorcelly.<\/p>\n
Irvine was described in a GoFundMe as having a zest for life, and that he had a way of bringing joy to those around him. <\/p>\n
