Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Wednesday called allegations that she married her brother \u201cinsane\u201d \u2013 but didn\u2019t entirely close the door to the possibility of being related to her ex-husband.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot to my knowledge,\u201d Omar responded, when asked by MS NOW\u2019s Chris Hayes<\/a> if there was any \u201cweird kernel of truth\u201d to the claim that she wed her brother.<\/p>\n The decade-old allegations that Omar and her ex, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, got hitched in a failed effort to get him a green card originated on a \u201cSomali blog,\u201d and spread when \u201cright-wing conspiracy theorists\u201d latched onto it, Omar explained in her first interview since federal agents raided<\/a> her Washington, DC, home last week.<\/p>\n US Rep. Facebook<\/p>\n \u201cSomebody put in there that, you know, he had to have been my brother or something to that effect,\u201d the Minnesota Democrat said.<\/p>\n According to Omar, bloggers \u201cwent and like found random people who are like .. \u2018She introduced him to us and said he was her brother,\u2019 which is, you know, insane.\u201d<\/p>\n Omar then described herself as \u201cworking class\u201d and living \u201cpaycheck to paycheck,\u201d when asked about her current financial situation in light of documents where Omar suggested she and her husband had a combined net-worth of some $30 million, which she later claimed was a mistake and revised down.<\/p>\n \u201cI have a Toyota Camry that\u2019s from 2016. It\u2019s our only car. I rent my DC place and my Minneapolis place, and so I mean, I don\u2019t know, that sounds like not the majority of Congress, but there\u2019s some of us that don\u2019t come from wealth and don\u2019t have wealth,\u201d she told Hayes.<\/p>\n Homeland Security Investigations seen outside Omar\u2019s Washington DC home on Oct. 12, 2026. Andrew Thomas\/CNP for NY Post \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n Omar indicated that she has no plans to continue to live at the DC home where Homeland Security Investigations agents executed the federal search warrant against her last week.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t continue to live there, so we have to figure out where to move to,\u201d she said, lamenting that her address was made public and \u201cwith the death threats that I deal with, it\u2019s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids like visiting off and on, having people track them.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cSquad\u201d congresswoman has been laying low since a search warrant was obtained and executed last Monday.<\/p>\n In her first on-camera remarks since the search, Omar urged her supporters to donate to her re-election campaign so she could \u201cfight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many other people right before the midterm elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
