The upper-level lanes of the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan were closed early Thursday following a fatal crash between a truck and a motorcycle, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The crash occurred about 5:19 a.m. when the motorcyclist collided with a tractor-trailer on the upper eastbound Trans-Manhattan Expressway, a short stretch of Interstate 95 connecting the bridge with the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.<\/p>\n
Officials in Fort Lee asked motorists to avoid the bridge until at least noon due to the investigation.<\/p>\n
The Palisades Parkway Police Department told motorists to expect delays for about six hours.<\/p>\n
As of 8 a.m., one left lane of the upper-level eastbound portion of the expressway had reopened, officials said.<\/p>\n
The crash was the second time in two days that traffic on the George Washington Bridge had been halted.<\/p>\n
