{"id":38072,"date":"2025-11-13T08:43:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T08:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/38072\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T08:43:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T08:43:15","slug":"giants-still-in-shock-over-brian-daboll-firing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/38072\/","title":{"rendered":"Giants still in &#8216;shock&#8217; over Brian Daboll firing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a word that many players do not embrace, ever: regret.<\/p>\n<p>This is not something easily discussed, but it was broached Wednesday as the Giants gathered at their team facility for the first time since head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/11\/sports\/brian-dabolls-firing-has-giants-searching-again-for-coach-to-fix-this\/#:~:text=Brian%20Daboll%20was%20fired%20on,20%20loss%20to%20the%20Bears.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Daboll was fired<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is the NFL, thus it is a business more than anything else. Still, was there a feeling of regret that those in the locker room let Daboll down?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do, personally, that\u2019s just me, though,\u201d outside linebacker Brian Burns said. \u201cI don\u2019t know about everybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Darius Slayton went in a different direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot regret because, I mean, we tried,\u201d Slayton said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like we didn\u2019t go out there and give our best effort to get the wins that obviously would have ultimately helped him keep his job. We weren\u2019t able to get that done. I wouldn\u2019t say \u2018regret\u2019 is the word. You feel for him and for his family and wish him the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the Giants are 2-8, and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/09\/sports\/heroes-zeros-from-giants-loss-to-bears-caleb-williams-powers-comeback\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday\u2019s 24-20 loss to the Bears<\/a> was their fourth straight defeat and yet another blown fourth-quarter lead, Slayton said he did not anticipate seeing Daboll shown the door.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37651542\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251026_GiantsEagles_CS044.jpg\" alt=\"New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton (18) runs the ball during the first half at Lincoln Financial Field, Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA.\" class=\"wp-image-37651542\"  \/>New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton (18) runs the ball during the first half at Lincoln Financial Field, Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA. for the NY POST<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was definitely a shock,\u201d Slayton said. \u201cIn here, as long as people are showing up to work and you show up to work you assume they are going to be here. We never assume that somebody is going to be gone. It definitely was a shock to us as players, but at the same time we understand the business and how it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wan\u2019Dale Robinson arrived in 2022, and Daboll was the only NFL coach he has ever had. He said he made sure to check in and speak with Daboll after hearing of the firing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just tough,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cYou never want to see somebody lose their job . He\u2019s the one who drafted me and got me up here. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Burns seemed especially down about this move. He was in Carolina when the Panthers fired Matt Rhule during the 2022 season. A year later, the Panthers fired Frank Reich during the 2023 season. Burns was a rookie in 2019 when the Panthers fired Ron Rivera in-season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I\u2019ve been through this a couple of times,\u201d Burns said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGo behind the scenes with Big Blue\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Giants by Paul Schwartz, a weekly Sports+ exclusive.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>That experience prompted Burns \u2014 who shares the NFL lead in sacks (11) with Myles Garrett \u2014 to deliver a message to his teammates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would hope the guys stick together, come even closer,\u201d Burns said. \u201cI kind of just told \u2019em in situations like this, everybody\u2019s under evaluation. Even though this is happening, nobody\u2019s going to turn on the film and be like, \u2018Oh, this was after Daboll got fired, that\u2019s why he\u2019s playing this way.\u2019 Nobody cares. I told \u2019em if there was ever a time to play your best ball, it\u2019s now. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there\u2019s ever a time to bond together and stick together, it\u2019s now.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It is a word that many players do not embrace, ever: regret.
