A survey by the UJA-Federation of New York\u2019s Community Security Initiative found that 39 institutions, including synagogues, Jewish schools and community centers, have more than doubled their annual security spending since the Hamas attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/us-news\/2026-10-23\/ty-article-magazine\/.premium\/for-new-york-synagogues-the-rising-cost-of-security-comes-at-a-price\/000001a1-6410-db3a-a9fb-f4bb33a90000\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Haaretz<\/a>. The surveyed institutions saw their median security spending rise from $50,000 before Oct. 7 to $152,470 afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>High Line Publishing launched a line of Jewish-focused books. The international publishing house unveiled Odessa Editions, which it\u2019s calling the \u201cnew global home for Jewish and Israeli fiction and non-fiction,\u201d this week at the Mediterranean restaurant Port Sa\u2019id in Manhattan, reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/news\/usa\/high-line-publishing-odessa-editions-new-york-launch-j590i94r\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Jewish Chronicle<\/a>. CBS news editor and Free Press founder Bari Weiss was among the attendees.<\/p>\n<p>Billy Crystal\u2019s one-man show has opened on Broadway. The beloved Jewish actor and comedian\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kveller.com\/billy-crystal-is-coming-back-to-broadway-with-a-very-personal-show\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">show \u201c860,\u201d<\/a> named after the street number of the house that Crystal lost during the Palisades Fire in 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/playbill.com\/article\/photos-jimmy-fallon-martin-short-mandy-patinkin-robert-de-niro-more-attend-opening-night-of-billy-crystals-860\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opened at the Imperial Theatre<\/a> this week. It\u2019s running through Jan. 3, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The Jewish indie comedy \u201cYaniv\u201d is coming to NYC. The film, about two teachers who break into an underground gambling circle run by Hasidic Jews to win money at the Israeli card game Yaniv, is <a href=\"https:\/\/ticketing.useast.veezi.com\/purchase\/2743?siteToken=sz5016jfhkjfgdfcpmh564apxm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opening at New Plaza Cinema<\/a> on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Your City.
