Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> stumped with Gov. Kathy Hochul<\/a> for the first time Friday \u2014 hoping to give the moderate Democrat a boost with his lefty base in New York City less than two weeks before Election Day.<\/p>\n

But the political odd couple spent just 15 minutes greeting voters together in Brooklyn\u2019s McCarren Park, where they also took a few questions from reporters before each leaving in separate cars.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen whether Mamdani\u2019s Democratic Socialists of America comrades<\/a> will turn out for Hochul on Nov. 3, where she\u2019ll face<\/a> Republican Bruce Blakeman as she seeks a second, four-year term.<\/p>\n

Asked by The Post whether she would give in to Mamdani\u2019s and the NYC-DSA\u2019s calls<\/a> for her to \u201ctax the rich\u201d next year if re-elected, Hochul gave a waffling answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will continue to deliver for the city of New York and the rest of the state, whether it\u2019s universal childcare, building more housing, doing whatever we can to keep our streets safe, within the confines of our existing budget,\u201d she said, as Mamdani nodded over her shoulder.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople want to make sure that we not let someone who\u2019s promised [President] Trump-style leadership in our state,\u201d Hochul added, in an apparent swipe at her Republican rival. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd those question why I\u2019m campaigning with him?\u201d she said, turning back to the mayor. \u201cHe\u2019s more popular than Bruce Blakema<\/a>n across the damn state of New York. It\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blakeman, at the same time as Mamdani and Hochul\u2019s joint appearance, held an \u201cearly voting\u201d rally across the river in Chinatown with GOP attorney general candidate Saritha Komatireddy<\/a>, who will face off against incumbent Democrat Letitia James<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she cannot be trusted,\u201d Blakeman said of Hochul, recalling her reneging on her promise to halt congestion pricing.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe doesn\u2019t have a record of building trust in the state. She promised it would be an affordable state, yet we are the most unaffordable state,\u201d he added. \u201cShe is not to be trusted.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Hochul insisted her partnership with Mamdani was \u201cgoing to endure for a long time,\u201d calling it a \u201cnew era of leadership\u201d during her quick walkabout around the Williamsburg park.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mayor brings and energy and an excitement to our campaign, and I\u2019m grateful for that,\u201d she said, with Mamdani gleefully proclaiming his plans to give Hochul his vote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am voting on the Upper East Side tomorrow, first day of early voting<\/a>, and I cannot wait to vote for Gov. Hochul\u2019s re-election,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n

The early voting period last nine days, ending on November 1. The governor was expected to campaign with Mamdani again for a Sunday lunch with city labor leaders, also in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Despite their differences, the mayor and governor both endorsed each other on their respective campaigns and have appeared together for numerous press conferences, and Mamdani released a pro-Hochul campaign ad<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n

But insiders told The Post the governor finally tapped the woke wunderkind Friday to rally his feverish base, framing the off-year election as a battle against Trump to get voters out to the polls.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t exactly a political love story. It\u2019s an arranged marriage with Election Day as the wedding date,\u201d said Democratic consultant former Orange County state Sen. David Carlucci. \u201cMamdani needs a friend in Albany, and Hochul needs his voters in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cHochul wants Mamdani\u2019s voters, but she doesn\u2019t necessarily want his political baggage,\u201d he added. \u201cShe\u2019s been trying to keep one foot in Brooklyn and the other in the suburbs without doing a political split.\u201d<\/p>\n

The stakes in New York are especially high during this election as Republicans have been making gains in the liberal city stronghold in recent years \u2014 with neighborhoods like The Bronx swinging shockingly right in the 2024 presidential election<\/a>.<\/p>\n

GOP gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin earned about<\/a> 30% of the city vote in 2022, landing him just 6 points behind Hochul in the state\u2019s tightest governor race since 1994 when Republican George Pataki won by 3 points after also securing around 30% of the vote in the Big Apple.<\/p>\n

Hochul is leading Blakeman by about 14 points, according to a Quinnipiac University poll<\/a> released this week, which found her ahead 55% to 41%.<\/p>\n

With Blakeman polling at about 24% in the city, Hochul is surely hoping to squeeze every vote she can out of the five boroughs to prevent the GOP from getting a foothold \u2014 which could explain why she\u2019s brought out the Mamdani guns.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny Dem statewide needs to juice the city vote and he\u2019s a proven vote getter,\u201d said Chris Coffey of the political consulting group Tusk Strategies.<\/p>\n

Democratic strategist Evan Stavisky said it would merely have been a case of political \u201cmalpractice\u201d for Hochul not to get some stage time with the mayor.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not desperation,\u201d said Stavisky, founder of the PR group Parkside Strategies. \u201cNew York City has become a much larger slice of the puzzle and 30% of the city just doesn\u2019t win the statewide anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
