The Post\u2019s exposure of Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s weird habit of not bothering to sign bills into law<\/a> bodes ill for him and for the city.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s taken the trouble to sign just one<\/a> in his first 10 months,\u00a0vs. 30, 47 and 28 for the last three mayors \u2014 and that merely allowed year-round outdoor dining.<\/p>\n

Everything else has faced the process known as \u201creturned unsigned,\u201d where bills automatically become law if they sit on his desk unsigned without a veto for four weeks.<\/p>\n

Far-left state Sen. Jabari Brisport posted that this is great news: \u201cThat\u2019s why he gets done more than other Mayors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gets what done?<\/p>\n

Critics suggest Mamdani\u2019s chosen this path because he can\u2019t spare the time \u2014 instead, he \u201cand his team are obsessed with becoming a content farm, often delaying or can-kicking boring governmental meetings so the mayor and his staff can hold pitch sessions for social media videos,\u201d as one source who often works with City Hall\u00a0told The Post.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Mamdani\u2019s pumped out video after video \u2014 opera-ticket giveaways, fake trash basketball with Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez and on and on \u2014 while his staff has also recruited an army of social-media influencers<\/a> to do the same thing, even as close to a hundred bills languish on his desk.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That comes with a price: The City Council members who worked to pass these laws have to feel dissed \u2014 they not only don\u2019t get to bask in a signed ceremony, they must wait a month for their achievements to start kicking in.<\/p>\n

That bad blood can easily come back to bite him down the line.<\/p>\n

Likewise, this distancing means the mayor hasn\u2019t \u201ctaken ownership\u201d of the new laws, something that insiders will surely take into effect \u2014 again, with potential grim future consequences.<\/p>\n

Most important, the time and energy spent on his TikTok profile isn\u2019t spent on any other work actually governing the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s easier to govern by TikTok than to actually perform the duties of the job,\u201d a former City Hall staffer told The Post.<\/p>\n

Yes, those of us who think he\u2019s wrong about almost everything see a silver lining there: He\u2019s achieving less, hooray!<\/p>\n

But mostly it means he\u2019s leaving governing to henchpeople, from his far-left housing czar, Cea Weaver, who\u2019s waging a war on landlords<\/a>, to his hack of a chancellor, Kamar Samuels, who\u2019s \u201cleading\u201d a continued collapse of the public schools<\/a> \u2014 and he\u2019ll still end up owning the results.<\/p>\n

Worst of all, it means he\u2019s not really learning how city government works, nor how to make it work, nor even how to lead the general public rather than simply entertain it.<\/p>\n

This invites disaster in a crisis, and almost every mayor faces a few, from Rudy Giuliani and 9\/11 to Bill de Blasio and COVID to Eric Adams and the migrant mess.<\/p>\n
