STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 The victim of a brutal slaying at a home in West Brighton on Monday afternoon was a 45-year-old retired Department of Sanitation auto mechanic, multiple sources told the Advance\/SILive.com.<\/p>\n

The victim, identified by sources as Anthony Casalaspro, lived in the Cary Avenue home where he was found decapitated, neighbors said, though public records list a former address in Concord.<\/p>\n

Casalaspro lists himself as a Department of Sanitation employee on his Facebook page, though sources said he was retired.<\/p>\n

He also indicated he attended McKee High School in St. George. <\/p>\n

The morning after Casalaspro\u2019s death, nearby neighbors recalled described seeing him on the block.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see him every now and then sitting on his balcony in a chair,\u201d one said. \u201cHe kept mostly to himself.\u201d <\/p>\n

Currently, police are questioning the 19-year-old son of Casalaspro\u2019s girlfriend in connection with the homicide.<\/p>\n

No charges have been filed as of Tuesday at noon.<\/p>\n

According to a law-enforcement source, a knife was recovered at the scene of the slaying, at 380 Cary Ave. <\/p>\n

Officers responded to an emergency 911 call around 4:20 p.m. on Monday and found the 45-year-old with multiple stab wounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD.<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old was found dead inside a bathtub in the residence, a law-enforcement source told the Advance\/SILive.com.<\/p>\n

The knife was still sticking out of his neck, the source said.<\/p>\n

A girl living at the residence arrived home in the afternoon and discovered the gruesome scene.<\/p>\n

She found a blood trail in the home, which led to the bathroom, the source said.<\/p>\n

Cary Avenue residents described a dramatic scene in the immediate aftermath of the stabbing.<\/p>\n

One neighbor told the Advance\/SILive.com she saw an adult woman \u201ccrying and throwing up\u201d in the street outside the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s dead!\u201d the woman shouted, according to that neighbor\u2019s account.<\/p>\n

As first responders arrived at the scene, the neighbor said the woman told EMS personnel \u201cthe head is in the tub.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two other neighbors who spoke with reporters described seeing police take the person of interest into custody.<\/p>\n

They said the young man had blood on his face and boots; one described him as being \u201ccalm and respectful\u201d with police.<\/p>\n

Homicides at historic low<\/p>\n

Staten Island has seen a historic low in homicides in 2025.<\/p>\n

Through Sept. 28, just two were recorded in the borough.<\/p>\n

That represents the lowest figure at this time of the year since the NYPD created its CompStat system in 1993.<\/p>\n
