I’m 76 now. My father usually bought and read The News every day as we were growing up. Many, many times, The News has been racially biased with negative coverage when the story involves Blacks in an incident, especially when it concerns crime.

The sad case of Koran Irvine, a Black man — married with children, living in the suburbs and employed by one of the biggest power companies, Con Edison — was misrepresented by the Daily News (“From commute to chaos,” Oct. 25). You showed pictures of the victim, Irvine, with a sub-headline talking about a road rage shooting, and many readers looking at the headline and picture would get the impression that the suspect was the Black man. He’s not. The suspect is Victor Romero. Romero retired on an NYPD disability pension for a broken wrist and had been working a job while receiving that pension because he supposedly couldn’t do his job for the NYPD anymore.

You need to rectify this glaringly unfair coverage immediately. Don’t give Romero any cover. Please run pictures of him every time you follow up, and clearly identify who is the victim and who is the accused suspect. Make it right.

Barbara Jones

Senseless aggression

Bronx: I have the highest respect for law enforcement and am grateful for the police and the risks they take on a daily basis to keep citizens safe. The shooting on the George Washington Bridge is heartbreaking. A retired police officer is charged with shooting someone, and road rage is the cause. There was no confrontation, no threat, just a near-accident. As a former police officer, he should have handled the situation a lot better. When shooting a gun into a moving car, there’s a chance someone will be injured or worse. Sadly, this was worse.

Arlana Solomon Girven Walker

Immortalized barber

Brooklyn: Jack Skolnick, a son of Brighton Beach who had a barbershop for 60 years in Brighton, passed away three and a half years ago. You did a story when he retired. Now we’re having a street naming on the corner where it all began.

Wayne M. Rosenfeld

Disabled & delayed

Forest Hills: On Sept. 6, with doctor’s approval, my wife applied for a parking permit “for persons with severe disabilities.” My wife requires a cane or walker due to spinal stenosis and muscular weakness. On Oct. 15, not having received either approval or denial of the application, I called the NYC Department of Transportation to see when the decision would be made. I was told “in six months.” This is no way to help. The permit allows for parking closer to stores and our religious institution. To have to wait is unacceptable and must be reported.

Lawrence Konstan

Foul lifts

Manhattan: To Mayor Mamdani and Gov. Hochul: I’m writing about the condition of a number of subway stations — in particular, the upkeep of those with elevators. The smell is terrible inside the elevators at the locations on my daily route (59th St. to WTC). I feel strongly that the MTA should put pressure on station managers to be more responsible in the maintenance of elevators that many of us depend on for access to the train platforms. I am frustrated that I have to write this letter, but on behalf of all commuters who face this daily problem, I hope I can push the MTA to be more diligent about keeping the stations clean and sanitary. I realize that our subway system is facing challenges financially. Nevertheless, it should be a model transit organization, like those in Paris, Berlin, Chicago and Boston. After all, this is the greatest city in the world.

Theodore Bastidas

Out-of-bounds bumps

Middle Village: Re “B’klyn man installs own speed bumps to keep local kids safe” (Oct. 25): People shouldn’t bypass the DOT and install their own speed bumps on city streets. As a long-time Community Board member who sits on the transportation committee, we receive requests regarding street safety matters, including speed bumps, and make recommendations. There are many things to consider, including driveway locations on the block and traffic density. We also have to check if it’s a city bus route. That said, once we send our report to the DOT, it does take a while to get its response, which can be frustrating. Additionally, many of our requests are rejected. One of the most disturbing reasons given was that the DOT will never install a speed reducer closer than a distance of 1,000 feet (nearly a quarter of a mile) from a speed camera.

Lee Rottenberg

Cheaper grocers

Manhattan: Why not just incentivize Trader Joe’s, ALDI USA, Lidl US and other major discount grocery chains to open more supermarkets in underserved communities instead of throwing away taxpayer money to fund government supermarkets that are destined to fail? There’s no way that government-controlled supermarkets will be able to run their operations like Trader Joe’s, ALDI and Lidl.

Edward Drossman

Not gonna happen

Forest Hills: I read Ben Krull’s op-ed incredulously (“Jewish New Yorkers and Zionism’s future” Oct. 26). He said he had hoped Mamdani would speak out against anti-Zionist extremists. Mr. Krull, did you sleep through the mayoral race? Mamdani is an anti-Zionist extremist! He does not believe in Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish country. He pretends that he’s against any country having a national religion but never brings it up when speaking about Islamic countries. Mamdani’s rhetoric has caused antisemitic crimes to increase by more than 13% since he took office. It was difficult for me to read the rest of your article, Mr. Krull, given your demonstrated ignorance and/or naiveté.

Libby Gurgis

Plausible paranoia

Charlotte, N.C.: With all of the ire and vitriol President Trump and Attorney General Todd Blanche have been spewing toward Alaska, my first thought upon hearing of Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s car accident was, “Oh no. A Republican operative ran her off the road.” A sad commentary on the political culture this year.

Barbara Haynes

Vapid platform

West Islip, L.I.: As a long-time disgruntled Republican, I can easily see the Republican playbook with its incessant liberties that has defined the Republican Party! The attack ads that exaggerate and lie about their opponents, without mentioning their myopic support for their dear leader whose baggage has destroyed America’s standing in the world, are astounding. Do we want more corruption and greed, or do we need to remember what the U.S.A. used to stand for?

Bill Romaka

Calming content

Brooklyn: My TV is officially tuned to “The Great British Bake Off” on Netflix. I’d rather see Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson shove cake down their throats than one more politician tell me they are for the people. When it’s over, I’ll go back to my regularly scheduled programming.

Mariann Tepedino

Treat all suspects as you do Black ones Bronx: I’ve been reading the Daily News since I could…

[8
9,24,55,54,264,56,299
post-385163","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york-city","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-new-york-city-headlines","tag-new-york-city-news","tag-new-york-county","tag-ny","tag-opinion
["GET
