The students delivered an outstanding performance with the blessing of Fr. Vasilios Louros, presiding priest of Zoodohos Peghe Greek Orthodox Church in the Bronx.<\/p>\n<p>Among those present were presence Consul General of Greece in New York Iphigenia Kanara and Melpo Gkagkali, Program Assistant in the Department of Greek Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-596195\" class=\"size-large wp-image-596195\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/OXI-Day-Bronx-IMG_1265-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-596195\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The students of the Greek American Institute celebrated \u2018OXI\u2019 Day with their production honoring October 28, 1940. Photo: Courtesy of Greek American Institute<\/p>\n<p>Music and school chorus teacher Phyto Stratis told The National Herald: \u201cI have the privilege of teaching at several schools within our Greek-American community, each with its own unique identity and contribution. What I find particularly moving about the Greek American Institute is the multicultural character of our student body. Through music, song, and theater, we do more than remember our history and pass it on to future generations of Greek-Americans; we also share it with children of many different national and cultural backgrounds. In this way, Greek history, education, and culture travel beyond the boundaries of our own community.
