ESPN SportsCenter<\/a> anchor Hannah Storm<\/a> won’t be covering the New York City Marathon on Sunday (November 1), but she’ll be cheering from home as she recovers from her second cancer surgery.<\/p>\n

The 64-year-old sports journalist shared the news with her Instagram followers<\/a> on Wednesday (October 28), revealing she is cancer-free after undergoing a hysterectomy. “This year I will be cheering on my ESPN\/ABC NYC Marathon family from my living room,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

“I was hoping to be back in time for Sunday’s race, but my doctors have advised me to take a little more time to recover from surgery. Most importantly, I’m very grateful to be cancer-free after undergoing a hysterectomy,” Storm continued.<\/p>\n

She also gave a shoutout to Dr. Monica Prasad-Hayes and her “awesome team” at the Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center.<\/p>\n

“Also, best of luck to all those running in the NYC marathon for some great causes on Sunday, including the Hannah Storm Foundation. See ya’ll soon on SportsCenter!” Storm concluded.<\/p>\n

The ESPN PR account shared Storm’s Instagram Story, writing, “ESPN wishes @espnhannahstorm well as she continues her recovery and look forward to welcoming her back to @sportscenter soon. Hannah will be missed on Sunday’s New York City Marathon broadcast and we’re sending her our very best.”<\/p>\n

Storm was previously diagnosed with breast cancer, which she opened up about on Good Morning America<\/a> in March 2024. She told fellow breast cancer survivor Robin Roberts<\/a> that she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, a type of breast cancer in which the cancer cells have not spread beyond the breasts’ milk ducts.<\/p>\n

Following the diagnosis, Storm underwent a successful lumpectomy and was considered by her doctors to be cancer-free. She told Roberts that she’d be taking a medication, the hormone therapy drug tamoxifen, for three years.<\/p>\n

Storm, who shares three daughters with her husband, sportscaster Dan Hicks, said she was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram in November 2023.<\/p>\n

“I was shocked because, again, I had had mammograms every year. I have no risk factors. I have no breast cancer in my family. I did not have a lump. I did not have pain. I don’t have any genetic predisposition to breast cancer,” Storm said on <\/a>GMA<\/a>. “And what I came to learn is the vast majority of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer don’t have risk factors, and so I’ve got to say I was shocked. I was scared.”<\/p>\n

She added, “I was very, very lucky because they found it so early.”<\/p>\n
