The Brooklyn building super who died in a scuffle with a porch pirate Wednesday was remembered by grieving family as a Kosovo war refugee and devoted father of three \u2014 as his alleged killer waits to face charges.<\/p>\n
Burim Havolli, 41, was beaten to death while defending<\/a> his Ditmas Park building, which has recently been plagued by package thefts and outside troublemakers, neighbors and relatives said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe died protecting the building, protecting the packages of the tenants,\u201d his brother, Belerim Havolli, told The Post. \u201cHe cares so much about everyone here. He had a big heart. I feel so bad for his wife and children,\u201d he added. \u201cWhat is this world coming to today? These are babies he had and now they\u2019re going to grow up without a father.\u201d<\/p>\n Charges are still pending for the 30-year-old assailant, who was arrested shortly after the assault.<\/p>\n \u201cThey need to be convicted,\u201d longtime tenant Ingrid Compton, 70, said. \u201cThey need to be put away. They need to make an example out of him.\u201d<\/p>\n Law enforcement sources said the alleged attack, who has not been officially charged, has at least three prior arrests, including a burglary rap last year and assault busts last year and in 2017. <\/p>\n Police said Burim Havolli tried to stop a package thief at his Brooklyn building and was beaten to death Wednesday. Kyle Mazza\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n Carolyn Banfield, the mother of the suspect\u2019s ex, said the couple parted ways after a tumultuous relationship.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was very jealous,\u201d Banfield said. \u201cI would say it was jealousy because some men are really demanding with women sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n It is unclear what charges he may face in Havolli\u2019s death, which could depend on autopsy results.<\/p>\n
