Now neighbors are begging for changes to street safety measures.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The FDNY says the crash happened just after 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Bridge Street and City Island Avenue. One person was sent to the hospital. Their condition is currently unknown.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">News 12 cameras captured the downed light pole still sprawled across the war memorial a day later. The city\u2019s Department of Transportation tells News 12 that any infrastructure impacted will be repaired or replaced.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Neighbors said the intersection is particularly dangerous.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cIt\u2019s not great, it\u2019s like a bottleneck right here,\u201d City Island resident Tom Raneri said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cI\u2019m not sure what the rush is to get over the bridge,&#8221; Naima Priestly, a City Island resident, said, &#8220;but we have to slow down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Back in July, <a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/bronx.news12.com\/bicyclist-hit-by-car-on-city-island-bridge\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a cyclist was hospitalized<\/a> with serious injuries after being hit by an SUV on the City Island Bridge.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Neighbors offered their own safety suggestions.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">&#8220;Just have someone working the crosswalk here, and they could just ticket people who are driving improperly,&#8221; Raneri said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cI think there should be a stop sign here or something, or slow down 15 miles per hour,\u201d City Island property owner Carlos Reyes said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">According to <a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/data.cityofnewyork.us\/Public-Safety\/Motor-Vehicle-Collisions-Crashes\/h9gi-nx95\/data_preview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recent data from the City of New York<\/a>, there have been at least three other nearby crashes since. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One person was hospitalized after a van crashed into a pole at Veterans Memorial Triangle at the edge&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":387017,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[35],"tags":[75,84,83,9,24,63],"class_list":["post-387016","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-manhattan","tag-manhattan","tag-manhattan-headlines","tag-manhattan-news","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/387016","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=387016"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/387016\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/387017"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=387016"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=387016"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=387016"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
