ESPN anchor Hannah Storm revealed why she\u2019ll be watching this year\u2019s New York City Marathon \u201cfrom my living room.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was hoping to be back in time for Sunday\u2019s race, but my doctors have advised me to take a little more time to recover from surgery,\u201d Storm, 64, shared via social media on Wednesday, October 28. \u201cMost importantly, I\u2019m very grateful to be cancer-free after undergoing a hysterectomy. Shout-out to Dr. Monica Prasad-Hayes and her awesome team at The Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cAlso, best of luck to all those running in the NYC Marathon for some great causes on Sunday, including the Hannah Storm Foundation. See y\u2019all soon on SportsCenter!\u201d<\/p>\n

Storm was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, which she recalled in an essay for ESPN<\/a> later that year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI told my circle of close friends and a handful of colleagues at work \u2014 they sent flowers and texts and it meant a LOT,\u201d she wrote at the time. \u201cJust letting someone know that you are thinking about them is so powerful. My perspective is, don\u2019t ever be afraid to reach out, even if you don\u2019t quite know what to say, because the person on the other end can feel your support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Storm underwent a lumpectomy, described by the Mayo Clinic as a \u201csurgical procedure that removes a breast tumor along with a small rim of surrounding healthy tissue, known as a margin, while keeping most of the natural breast intact.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe surgery went well,\u201d Storm wrote. \u201cI stayed out of work for a week and returned three days before the Super Bowl, grateful for the distraction of waiting. There is a lot of waiting \u2014 for pathology reports and test results, and it helps stay busy and optimistic.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cAbout a week later, Dr. [Elisa] Port delivered the best possible news from the pathology report on the surrounding tissue \u2014 she had removed everything, and there was no sign of cancer left in my breast. I am extremely lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n

Storm, who lost her father to cancer, acknowledged that \u201ceveryone\u2019s cancer journey is different.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo take from this story what you will, but if there is one thing I hope you take away with, it\u2019s always to be your best advocate regarding your health,\u201d she said. \u201cMake screening for cancers a priority. Screening picks up cancers early and saves lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Storm added, \u201cIf you have a loved one in your life who isn\u2019t doing that, please encourage them to do so.
