The “Back to Friends” singer and New York native told the Metropolitan Transportation Authority ahead of his impromptu performance, which also included a keyboard player and a group of harmonizing backup singers, that he grew up riding the subway.

“The MTA is my childhood. It was how I got around,” he said.

The performance took place at the 14th Street-Union Square station, the MTA said.

“When I was in high school, I took four trains to school every day,” he added.

After his performance, he had a simple message: “Keep taking the subway,” he said, giving a smile and a thumbs-up.

Singer-songwriter Sombr performed his pop hit “My Body Isn’t Ready” during a pop-up performance at a New York…

[36
141053,136163,141057,98,100,99,141061,141060,36868,141062,24297,2533,141,141055,9,24,141056,63,849,141054,41159,141059,141058,1657,141063,141064
post-388027","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-brooklyn","tag-14-street-union-square","tag-back-to-friends","tag-backup-singers","tag-brooklyn","tag-brooklyn-headlines","tag-brooklyn-news","tag-four-trains","tag-high-school-commute","tag-impromptu-performance","tag-keep-taking-the-subway","tag-kmnd","tag-metropolitan-transportation-authority","tag-mta","tag-my-body-isnt-ready","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-new-york-native","tag-nyc","tag-nyc-subway","tag-pop-up-performance","tag-sombr","tag-subway-performance","tag-subway-riders","tag-subway-station","tag-subway-video","tag-union-square-station
["GET
