EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (PIX11) \u2014 There was some unexpectedly wild weather<\/a> in Brooklyn on Thursday.<\/p>\n

A hail storm quickly and powerfully blew through East Flatbush on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been an interesting week for the weather in New York City.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, New York saw its first snowfall<\/a>. On Tuesday and Wednesday night, the northern lights<\/a> were seen in southern New York, dancing across the night sky.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the hail may have been soft, small pellets called graupel<\/a>. Graupel, according to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, forms when water droplets below 32 degrees freeze onto a snow crystal. The process, called riming, can grow the snow crystals to a larger size, but not bigger than 0.2 inches.<\/p>\n

The weather is expected to turn sour<\/a> on Saturday and Sunday in the tri-state area, so watch your head for more potential hail!<\/p>\n
