One mother from the Ghanaian community traveled from New Jersey and said she felt compelled to mourn the loss of a young life.

Many at the rally shared a similar sentiment: Javits could have been anyone’s child, simply walking to school.

One of the most emotional moments came when Javits’ father visited his son’s memorial. Surrounded by mourners offering support, he stayed for only a few moments before he left.

The tragedy has also drawn attention from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

In a post on X Saturday afternoon, Mamdani announced that he had spoken directly with President Donald Trump, who agreed to grant Javits’ mother a visa immediately so she could travel from Ghana to New York to say goodbye to her son.

Mamdani expressed his condolences and emphasized the devastating pain of losing a child, particularly for a parent thousands of miles away.

Mamdani’s announcement did not confirm whether the visa had already been issued.

As the community continues to mourn, those who gathered Saturday are calling for justice, answers and changes to prevent another young life from being lost to gun violence.

An emotional gathering brought dozens of people together Saturday in the Claremont section of the Bronx to remember…

[38
128,9,24,63,129,131,130
post-389358","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-the-bronx","tag-bronx","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-the-bronx","tag-the-bronx-headlines","tag-the-bronx-news
["GET
