Andreas Almgren won the TCS New York City Marathon on his debut run at the distance on an incredible day in Central Park.

Almgren pulled away in the final mile to clock 2:06:01, 13 seconds ahead of Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa. Kamohelo Mofolo, on his 21st birthday, finished third, just one second ahead of last year’s winner Benson Kipruto.

In a thrilling race, Almgren timed his kick to perfection to become the first Swede to win an Abbott World Marathon Major.

Almgren is also the first non-African Majors winner since Yuki Kawauchi stunned everyone in Boston in 2018.

The women’s race was just as thrilling with Sheila Chepkirui regaining her New York City title after an exciting battle with Hellen Obiri.

The pair were inseparable until the final 200m climb in Central Park at which point Chepkirui pulled clear to win by six seconds.

In a dramatic twist, American Jess McClain, who was four second behind at the 40KM mark, surged past Obiri in the closing moments to snatch second.

The dramatic racing continued in the men’s wheelchair race where Marcel Hug beat Daniel Romanchuk in a thrilling sprint in Central Park.

In the most closely fought race this season, Hug and Romanchuk raced wheel-to-wheel throughout the five Boros.

Romanchuk, who won here in 2024, appeared to have made a race-winning move as the pair entered Central Park for a second time but Hug produced a champion’s response, sliding into the American’s slipstream before catapulting his way to the finish line to win by just one second.

It was a close battle for third place too with David Weir edging out Lito Anker by a second.

World record holder Catherine Debrunner concluded her season in style by winning her fifth Major.

The Swiss never looked back after establishing a 2:08 lead at 10KM, eventually crossing the line in 1:40:02, just 30 seconds behind her own course record.

Tatyana McFadden and Susannah Scaroni, who became a parent less than two months ago, finished second and third respectively.

[8
9,24,55,54,56
post-390874","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york-city","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-new-york-city-headlines","tag-new-york-city-news","tag-ny
["GET
