Classes are cancelled between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. to allow members of the university community to attend.

This year’s theme, Remembrance through the ages, recognizes how the meaning of remembrance has evolved over time. Alongside those who served in the First and Second World Wars it honours Canadians who took part in more recent conflicts and military operations, as well as those serving today. Preserving and sharing their stories helps ensure their service and sacrifices are not forgotten.

Led by Interfaith Chaplain Erin Burns, the service begins at 10:50 a.m., with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Members of the Queen’s and Kingston communities are welcome to attend. Following the service, attendees are invited to join a procession to the 5th Field Company Plinth for wreath-laying. The Queen’s Military and Veterans Network will then host a gathering with refreshments in Wallace Hall.

The service program is available on the Office of the Principal and Vice-Chancellor’s website. Alongside traditional elements, the program will feature songs performed by the Queen’s student choir, readings of letters from the Queen’s Archives dating from 1917 to 2010, and poems highlighting the stories of Indigenous veterans.

Remembrance at Queen’s takes many forms, from the annual service and campus memorials to archival collections and the preservation of stories. The Memorial Room in the JDUC, near Wallace Hall, honours Queen’s community members who died during the First and Second World Wars. It will be open on Remembrance Day for those wishing to spend time in quiet reflection.

To learn more about Queen’s contributions to Canada’s wartime efforts, explore the Queen’s University Archives exhibition, Queen’s Remembers.
