One person was shot by police after opening fire on officers outside a deli in the Fordham section of the Bronx on Monday, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Officers were patrolling the area when they came across a man with a gun at 2657 Bainbridge Ave. between East 194th and 196th streets just before 3:30 p.m., according to police.<\/p>\n
Sources tell Eyewitness News that the shooting unfolded after the suspect got into a dispute with employees inside a deli at the location.<\/p>\n
They say the suspect went home, then returned to the deli with a gun and attempted to use the weapon, but it wouldn’t fire.<\/p>\n
Officers then engaged the suspect outside the deli, where the man fired at them. Officers then returned fire, and struck the man. It’s not clear where he was struck, or how many times.<\/p>\n
The 49-year-old suspect was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he is in stable condition, according to sources.<\/p>\n
No officers were injured during the shooting.<\/p>\n
A gun was recovered at the scene.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
