Writer-director Jordan Firstman\u2018s very cool movie \u201cClub Kid\u201d had a red carpet premiere in NYC last week \u2014 and the after-party was appropriately at one of the city\u2019s foremost underground music spots.<\/p>\n
The Lower East Side\u2019s Ukrainian National Home was turned into \u201cClub Labor,\u201d the fictional setting of Firstman\u2019s film, for the night.<\/p>\n
Bands that famously played the downtown space in the \u201980s included New Order (soon after morphing from Joy Division following singer Ian Curtis\u2019 death), The Misfits, Phish, Blues Traveler, Gogol Bordello and more.<\/p>\n

The space has also hosted tributes to David Mancuso\u2019s legendary underground \u201cLoft\u201d parties \u2014 the private raves the DJ started at his Broadway home in 1970.<\/p>\n
Guests at the \u201cClub Kid\u201d bash supped on \u201cpierogies, stuffed cabbage and fries, and drank pineapple-jalape\u00f1o cocktails,\u201d a guest said, while DJ Bearcat curated the playlist.<\/p>\n
A huge disco ball and silver tinsel hung from the ceiling, and the dance floor was covered with hopscotch panels.<\/p>\n
The party was also a celebration for \u201cClub Kid\u2019s\u201d two Gotham nominations as awards season gets underway. The film, which debuted in Cannes and was bought by A24, is getting major Oscar buzz.<\/p>\n

Firstman and his film\u2019s young co-star Reggie Absolom, 12, \u201csat at a piano and sang \u2018Thoroughfare\u2019 by Ethel Cain, which Firstman has said is his favorite song,\u201d a spy said. (The film stars Firstman as a hard-partying gay club promoter whose world is upended by the arrival of a 10-year-old son he never knew existed.)<\/p>\n
The movie has been on the festival circuit and is considered to be an Oscar contender. BFA.com \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n
Attendees included a mix of stars, insiders and influencers such as Cara Delevingne, Colleen Camp, Chlo\u00eb Sevigny, Kareem Rahma of \u201cSubway Takes,\u201d Joey King, Bob Balaban, Benito Skinner, Francesa Scorsese, Dan Rosen and Brian Park of the \u201cMiddlebrow Podcast,\u201d Hunter Harris and Peyton Dix of the \u201cLemme Say This\u201d podcast from Higher Ground, \u201cRecess Therapy\u201d creator Julian Shapiro-Barnum, and many more.<\/p>\n

The film, which opens Nov. 6, previously played the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, the Hamptons International Film Festival, the Chicago Film Festival and more.<\/p>\n
