North Carolina coach Bill Belichick said he isn’t pursuing any jobs as a head coach in the NFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a statement\u00a0posted on social media Friday night<\/a>\u00a0and coming amid the first changes of the current hiring cycle, the 73-year-old who led the NFL’s New England Patriots<\/a> to six Super Bowl<\/a> titles said he remains committed to building a program as a first-time college coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince arriving in Chapel Hill,” Belichick said, \u201cmy commitment to the UNC football program hasn’t (wavered).\u201d<\/p>\n

The New York Giants<\/a> and Tennessee Titans have coaching vacancies, notably with\u00a0the Giants firing Brian Daboll earlier this week<\/a>. Belichick was part of two Super Bowl titles with the Giants as defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells.<\/p>\n

Belichick, who\u00a0shrugged off coaching rumors<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday after Daboll’s firing, specifically mentioned the Giants in Friday’s statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a privilege for me to work for the Mara family and be a member of Coach Parcells’ staff for over a decade,\u201d Belichick said. \u201cHowever, despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belichick’s Tar Heels (4-5, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference)\u00a0have won two straight games<\/a>\u00a0to inch closer to bowl eligibility, notably with a better defensive showing\u00a0that has included racking up sacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

UNC visits Wake Forest on Saturday, the first of three straight in-state ACC foes to end the regular-season schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy focus remains solely on continuing to improve this team, develop our players and build a program that makes Tar Heel fans proud,\u201d Belichick said. \u201cWe’re on to Wake Forest.\u201d<\/p>\n
