{"id":40681,"date":"2025-11-15T17:46:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T17:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/40681\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T17:46:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T17:46:11","slug":"this-long-island-hamlet-is-the-most-expensive-place-to-live-in-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/40681\/","title":{"rendered":"This Long Island hamlet is the most expensive place to live in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you thought Westchester was the most expensive place to live in New York state, think again. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gobankingrates.com\/money\/economy\/most-expensive-places-to-live-in-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">A new study<\/a> has listed the Empire State suburbs with the highest cost of living for essentials \u2014 and 15 of the top 20 are on Long Island. <\/p>\n<p>GOBankingRates determined the priciest places by analyzing the monthly cost of essentials: mortgage payments,  groceries, utilities, healthcare, and transportation. <\/p>\n<p>The company compiled data from sources including the US Census American Community Survey, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the 2023 Consumer Expenditure Survey to reach their findings. <\/p>\n<p>Sands Point, the tiny, tony waterfront village on Long Island, was determined to be the most expensive town to live in in New York state. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.69817579;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37675881\" width=\"1002\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/548734750628643-set-548734740628644-115475506.jpg\" alt=\"Aerial view of Sands Point on Long Island, with two large estates and dense green trees.\" class=\"wp-image-37675881\"  \/>Sands Point is home to many \u201cGreat Gatsby\u201d-esque shortline mansions. The village was determined to be New York\u2019s most expensive town  Facebook\/Sands Point Preserve Conservancy<\/p>\n<p>There, the average monthly cost of necessities per month tops a staggering $17,400, including a mortgage repayment of $14,787. <\/p>\n<p>The average price of a Sands Point property comes in at a cool $2.98 million. <\/p>\n<p>Nearby Old Westbury was found to be the second most expensive place to live in the Empire State, with monthly expenditures on essentials totalling $15,889. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Muttontown, a small, swanky village with a population of just 3,500, came in third. <\/p>\n<p>The Westchester burb with the highest cost for monthly necessities was determined to be Larchmont.
