A Bronx man who was clipped by a city garbage truck while crossing Bruckner Boulevard has won a whopping $50.7 million verdict from a jury.<\/p>\n
Video of the September 2021 incident shows construction foreman Darcy Bottex, in a white hat and bright orange shirt, walking back to his work site after a quick stop at a deli when the vehicle struck him in the left arm, sending him careening to the pavement.<\/p>\n
Bottex, now 43, climbed back to his feet as the truck finished its left-hand turn, the footage showed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truck was actually about to run over my foot. I pulled my leg back,\u201d Bottex told The Post this week. \u201cI barely escaped it. I got hit directly into my arm and shoulder, that\u2019s why I went flying the way I did. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy arm was instantly purple,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Two days later, Bottex began to realize the extent of his injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like wait, hold on \u2014 I can\u2019t turn my head too much,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The father of two, who had three subsequent surgeries including a procedure on his shoulder and two on his neck, now has permanent pain and has been unable to work since the incident. <\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t look down for too long, can\u2019t look up for too long. It\u2019s very draining. Constantly, 24 hours a day, there\u2019s not a moment that passes that I don\u2019t feel\u201d pain, he said.<\/p>\n
He sued the city for unspecified damages in January 2022 in Bronx Supreme Court. The jury handed up its eye-popping decision Oct. 28.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe verdict is really like a dream come true,\u201d he said. \u201cI haven\u2019t been able to do nothing, I can\u2019t really provide for myself, I rely on family. After a while, it starts mentally affecting you.\u201d <\/p>\n
He plans to use the cash to provide for his family after years of being forced to rely on relatives after his injuries. <\/p>\n
\u201cMr. Bottex incurred severe personal injuries which he is forced to cope with for the rest of his life,\u201d said his attorney, Jason Herbert, who noted Bottex was a foreman supervising 30 workers at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n
