BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (PIX11) \u2013 An 11-year veteran of the FDNY will be laid to rest<\/a> on Saturday after he died while battling a fire in Brooklyn last week.<\/p>\n Colleagues knew 42-year-old Patrick Brady<\/a> as an \u201cinformal leader,\u201d according to firefighter Scott Coyne.<\/p>\n More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cHe was an organizer, he brightened up the room,\u201d Coyne said. \u201cWhen you look back over your life, you always want to be a figure like a Pat Brady.\u201d<\/p>\n Brady, from Queens, comes from a long line of firefighters \u2013 his brothers, a cousin, and an uncle have all served or are currently working.<\/p>\n \u201cThis family is a firefighter family,\u201d New York City Mayor Eric Adams said earlier this week. \u201cThey have been dedicated to protecting the lives of New Yorkers, and we will all cherish Patrick\u2019s memory.\u201d<\/p>\n Brady was known as someone you could always count on, according to firefighter Lt. James Walker.<\/p>\n \u201cPat was the type of guy you really hoped was working when you were coming into work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Jake Touhey, a firefighter who worked with Brady, told PIX11 News that his love for the firehouse came second only to his love for his wife, Kira.<\/p>\n City leaders joined firefighters last Sunday for a memorial outside Ladder 120 in Brownsville, where Brady had worked since 2022.<\/p>\n \u201cWe mourn the passing of Firefighter Patrick Brady, whose bravery this city is deeply indebted to. New York City is forever grateful for his service and sacrifice,\u201d Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said.<\/p>\n More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cFirefighter Brady made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the people of this city, and his passing is a devastating reminder of the dangers our members face every single day in service to others,\u201d the FDNY Uniformed Firefighters Association said in a statement.<\/p>\n Brady suffered from a heart attack while fighting the fire<\/a> on Kings Highway last Sunday, according to the FDNY.
