STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Just a handful of days after Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani\u2019s jobs portal tallied more than 50,000 applicants, his mayoral transition fund collected over $1 million. <\/p>\n
\u201cNone of this would have been possible without everyday New Yorkers willing to spare $5, $10, or $20 to help build a government that will deliver for working people,\u201d Mamdani said in a written statement. \u201cI\u2019m grateful for every dollar New Yorkers have contributed to make this vision of an affordable, more livable city a reality.\u201d <\/p>\n
The average donation of the 12,707 submissions is roughly $77.65, the statement detailed. <\/p>\n
Furthermore, the sheer number of donors is bounds away from Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 and former Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s transition funds. <\/p>\n
According to the statement, Adams only garnered 884 givers with de Blasio marking even less at 820 givers. <\/p>\n
On the other hand, the average donation was remarkably higher, the statement said. Adams\u2019 donations averaged about $1,000 while de Blasio\u2019s reached $2,392.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore than 12,000 New Yorkers are contributing to this transition to turn the page on the politics of the past and build a new era for New York City,\u201d Elana Leopold, Executive Director of the Transition, said. \u201cThanks to New Yorkers\u2019 support, we will be ready on day one with top talent in place and ready to deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mamdani\u2019s campaign championed affordability, appealing to millions young New Yorkers, many of whom are struggling to remain in the five boroughs due to inflation and housing costs. <\/p>\n
