Raj Goyle Campaign<\/p>\n<p>Goyle blasted DiNapoli for not doing enough to scrutinize the state Public Service Commission, which he claimed has been a \u201crubber stamp\u201d as it reviews and approves rate increases for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/14\/us-news\/getting-hot-kathy-hochul-orders-audit-on-con-ed-salaries-amid-rate-hike-fight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Con Edison, National Grid <\/a>and other providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been Rip Van Winkle. For too long, our state\u2019s auditors and regulators have been asleep at the wheel, rubber-stamping higher electric bills for New Yorkers \u2014 often on behalf of foreign-owned utilities. Ratepayers deserve better,\u201d Goyle told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Con Edison and other utility providers have slowly increased their rates. Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about fairness. If they can raise your bill, the comptroller should be the ratepayers\u2019 cop on the beat \u2014 someone who follows the money, exposes the deals, and makes sure New Yorkers finally have a real partner in the energy battles of the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goyle\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/27\/opinion\/how-the-big-beautiful-bill-will-lower-energy-costs-bolster-the-electric-grid-and-unleash-us-prosperity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Energy Fairness and Ratepayer Accountability\u201d plan<\/a> would include a new \u201cUtility Fairness Audit\u201d powers to directly examine investor-owned utilities, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy office will audit the state\u2019s role in these price hikes,\u201d he said. \u201cNew Yorkers pay more while utilities and their shareholders pocket tax credits, abatements, bonuses, and side deals \u2014 and for years no one in state government has followed the money. I will expose those deals and put real pressure on regulators and Albany to stop letting the system work for utilities while everyone else keeps getting squeezed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goyle\u2019s \u201cEnergy Fairness and Ratepayer Accountability\u201d plan would include a new \u201cUtility Fairness Audit\u201d. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Goyle said a big problem that has to be addressed is that new and emerging artificial intelligence data centers are devouring more and more of the energy supply.<\/p>\n<p>Data centers consumed 4.4% of U.S. electricity in 2023 and it\u2019s projected to rise to up to 12% by 20230.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Independent Systems Operators predicts double-digit grid-load growth tied to data centers, AI and electrification \u2014 and Goyle said the data centers should pay a \u201cfair share fee.<\/p>\n<p>DiNapoli, in office since 2007, had no immediate comment. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>He insisted that green energy mandates \u2014 some of which have been delayed by <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/16\/us-news\/liberals-put-kathy-hochul-on-hot-seat-as-worried-dems-embrace-zohran-mamdanis-tax-hikes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gov.
