{"id":41908,"date":"2025-11-17T04:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T04:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/41908\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T04:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T04:25:09","slug":"giants-jameis-winston-laments-critical-interception-in-first-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/41908\/","title":{"rendered":"Giants&#8217; Jameis Winston laments critical interception in first start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jameis Winston threw a touchdown pass to Jalin Hyatt on Aug. 21 that had everyone within the Giants feeling good about both enigmas headed into the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>Eighty-seven days later, with a chance to tie Sunday\u2019s score, Winston again targeted Hyatt, and the play resulted in an interception from the 14-yard line that all but sealed<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/16\/sports\/giants-blow-another-late-lead-to-spoil-mike-kafkas-coaching-debut\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> a 27-20 loss to the Packers.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you don\u2019t have the reps with some of your teammates, you\u2019ve got to capitalize on those moments and continue to work even harder and find solutions because when the game really matters, timing and execution is the most important thing,\u201d Winston said. \u201cJalin and I, our timing and execution could have been a lot better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hyatt <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/16\/sports\/heroes-zeros-from-giants-loss-jalin-hyatt-bungles-his-long-awaited-chance\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appeared to cut off his flag route to the end zone <\/a>with the ball in the air against a Cover 2 scheme, and Evan Williams came down with an uncontested interception with 36 seconds remaining.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got to make the play,\u201d Hyatt said. \u201cWhen I turned my head it was already in the air, but at the end of the day it\u2019s on me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the Jameis Winston Experience, Giants fans.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.41241379;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37685607\" width=\"833\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/green-bay-packers-vs-new-115561682_9f134c.jpg\" alt=\"New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston (19) dancing in the end zone after running for a touchdown in the 4th quarter.\" class=\"wp-image-37685607\"  \/>Giants quarterback Jameis Winston (19), dancing in the end zone after running for a touchdown in the fourth quarter on Sunday.<br \/>\n Charles Wenzelberg \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>After weeks of outcry begging for Winston to be elevated above game-manager Russ Wilson, the Giants made the change to their backup quarterback depth chart and started Winston for the first time with Jaxson Dart sidelined by a concussion.<\/p>\n<p>On one hand, Winston led three touchdown drives and capped the last with a 1-yard quarterback sneak for a 20-19 lead. The interception was followed by the defense forcing a punt to set up a Hail Mary throw from Winston that never came because he was strip-sacked by Micah Parsons as time expired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really wanted to win for these guys,\u201d Winston said. \u201cHow we dominated the line of scrimmage, we ran the ball effectively. We did some good things in the passing game. [Interim coach Mike Kafka] did an incredible job calling this game. I really wanted to win this one for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winston is known for throwing to anticipated spots and giving his receivers a chance to make plays on 50\/50 balls.
