The O.J. Simpson estate has accepted a nearly $58 million settlement to pay Fred Goldman decades after he won a wrongful death lawsuit against the late former football star, TMZ<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

Malcolm LaVergne, the Simpson estate executor, filed court documents this week accepting Fred Goldman\u2019s creditor claim for $57,997,858.12, plus judgment interest. <\/p>\n

Goldman had originally requested more than $117 million, but LaVergne argued the interest wasn\u2019t calculated correctly despite what he described as a good faith effort by Goldman to determine an accurate amount, the report said. <\/p>\n

The settlement stems from a 1996 civil court case in which Simpson was found liable for the death of Ron Goldman, Fred\u2019s son. In the civil case, the Goldmans were awarded more than $33 million, but Simpson paid only a small fraction of the judgment. <\/p>\n

Simpson was acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in an infamous 1995 criminal trial.<\/p>\n

The nearly $58 million figure represents what both sides agreed to after negotiations., according to LaVergne. The estate plans to pay as much as possible through ongoing auctions of Simpson\u2019s items. <\/p>\n

LaVergne said some items have been stolen, and he\u2019s working with lawyers to regain possession of them, the report said. <\/p>\n

The estate executor has declined most other creditor claims, accepting only Goldman\u2019s and a claim from the IRS, according to the TMZ report. <\/p>\n

LaVergne said he\u2019s prioritizing paying the federal government before anyone else, including the State of California. who will have to sue to collect the approximately $636,945 it filed a claim for, he said. <\/p>\n

Simpson died of prostate cancer in April 2024 at the age of 76. <\/p>\n
