NEW YORK (WABC) — New Yorkers may claim to have the best bagels in the world — but another city is giving the Big Apple a run for its money.<\/p>\n
BagelFest<\/a>, a national competition, was held at Citi Field this weekend where Starship Bagel in the Dallas\/Fort Worth-area walked away with the top honor.<\/p>\n The Texas shop was founded by a Brooklyn-born bagel maker and the store is a James Beard-nominated bakery.<\/p>\n The bakery also earned the top honor from the festival in 2023.<\/p>\n About two dozen businesses from 13 states and three other countries battled it out at Sunday’s competition and the festival organizer said it just keeps getting bigger.<\/p>\n “It’s such a New York thing, you’re not going to get this anywhere else in the world but this city, so it’s a celebration of New York culture, but also global bagel culture and it all comes together,” said BagelFest organizer Sam Silverman.<\/p>\n Adding a bit more salt to the wound, New York didn’t even win the People’s Choice Award — that went to Baltik’s Bagel, a shop in Richmond, Virginia.<\/p>\n ———-<\/p>\n * Get Eyewitness News Delivered<\/a> <\/p>\n * More New York City news<\/a><\/p>\n * Send us a news tip<\/a><\/p>\n * Download the abc7NY app for breaking news alerts<\/a> <\/p>\n * Follow us on YouTube<\/a> <\/p>\n
