New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot and critically wounded in Midtown early Sunday morning and is now clinging to life\u00a0at Bellevue Hospital, police and team officials said. <\/p>\n
The shooting took place on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue shortly after 2 a.m., according to police, who did not identify Boyd as the victim.<\/p>\n

It was not clear if Boyd was the intended target.<\/p>\n No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting as of Monday, but police are asking the public for help finding the man they believe shot Boyd. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, a black cap, multi-colored sneakers and carrying a black backpack, police said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe unidentified individual fled the location on foot traveling eastbound on West 38 Street to parts unknown,\u201d police said about the suspect following the shooting.<\/p>\n A bartender who asked not to be identified said he was working late at a nearby bar when he heard a loud bang at around 2 a.m.<\/p>\n Boyd, a Texas native who played at the University of Texas, began his NFL career in 2019 when the Minnesota Vikings selected him in the seventh round of the draft, per NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n He spent four seasons with the Vikings before he signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, but he was eventually released from the team later that year. He was then signed to the Houston Texans\u2019 practice squad, where he stayed for two seasons.<\/p>\n In March, Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets. He has been out because of an injury since the summer.<\/p>\n
