CAIRO \u2014 Two New York State Police troopers were injured Monday evening when a vehicle struck them during a traffic stop on Route 23, according to State Police, in an incident that left the driver of the vehicle dead.<\/p>\n
The crash occurred around 5:25 p.m., as the troopers \u2014 both assigned to State Police\u2019s Catskill barracks \u2014 were conducting a stop along the roadway. The troopers were standing outside the vehicle they had pulled over when their patrol vehicle was struck by a third vehicle.<\/p>\n
Both troopers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. They were later released.<\/p>\n
The driver of the vehicle that struck them was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later identified her as Sharon\u00a0L. Torres, 69, of Cairo.<\/p>\n
State Police said the incident remains under active investigation and did not release additional details, including what may have led to the crash or how the driver was killed.<\/p>\n
The westbound lanes between Ross\u00a0Ruland Road and Silver Spur Road were closed after the crash.<\/p>\n
