WASHINGTON \u2014 Lefty California Rep. Ro Khanna has told The Post<\/a> that socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani<\/a> is too radical even for him on at least one major issue \u2014 his commie economics.<\/p>\n

Khanna, a self-described \u201cprogressive capitalist,\u201d said in an exclusive interview Monday that Mamdani went too far by expressing support for \u201cseizing the means of production\u201d as recently as 2021 and claimed he \u201cstrongly disagreed\u201d with the notion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe, obviously, in innovation and free enterprise,\u201d Khanna said.<\/p>\n

Still, the California Dem insisted Gotham will fare just fine economically under Mamdani\u2019s leadership, although he said he already warned the incoming mayor to face crime head-on \u2014 and to \u201cgo overboard\u2019\u2019 in reassuring Jewish residents he\u2019ll protect them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the biggest place \u2014 and I\u2019ve told him this directly \u2014 that he can\u2019t mess up is on crime,\u201d Khanna said, adding that he urged Mamdani to reassure NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch that his term won\u2019t ignore public-safety issues.<\/p>\n

Mamdani denied while campaigning that he still supported \u201cdefunding the police\u201d but has since tapped a lefty political strategist who backs the anti-cop movement<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Former top brass at the NYPD warned before the election that officers may even begin fleeing the force<\/a> if Mamdani won.<\/p>\n

Influential city rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, in\u00a0a chilling sermon\u00a0after the election, also claimed Mamdani\u2019s victory could \u201cseverely threaten Jewish safety everywhere in the city<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he needs to go overboard in assuring the Jewish-American community they\u2019re going to be safe,\u201d Khanna said of Mamdani, who has been accused of being an antisemite.<\/p>\n

But Khanna sought to reassure voters that he expects Mamdani will be a \u201cpragmatic\u201d mayor in Gracie Mansion \u2014 and resist being overly \u201cideological.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis election was a sea change in what\u2019s electable,\u201d the Silicon Valley Democrat said. \u201cI mean, if a guy like him can win, wow. I didn\u2019t think he would win. \u2026 I did after the primary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s platform focused on issues of affordability and the economy, with campaign promises to subsidize government-run grocery stores<\/a>, freeze rents<\/a> and cover bus fares<\/a> for New Yorkers \u2014 all while raising taxes on corporations by up to 11.5% annually<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York is going to be great. I mean, it\u2019s the financial capital of the world,\u201d Khanna said, claiming Mamdani was \u201cnot talking about controlling the financial capital or tech companies. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s saying, \u2018Look, people need to get rent that they can\u2019t afford. People need to have childcare that they can afford. People need to have food that they can afford.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI call myself an FDR Democrat,\u201d Khanna said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI call myself a progressive capitalist. I believe in moral capitalism.
