{"id":44581,"date":"2025-11-19T08:06:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T08:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/44581\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T08:06:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T08:06:08","slug":"islanders-patrick-roy-eviscerates-mikko-rantanen-for-vicious-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/44581\/","title":{"rendered":"Islanders&#8217; Patrick Roy eviscerates Mikko Rantanen for vicious hit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DALLAS \u2014 The Islanders were left shaken by Mikko Rantanen\u2019s hit on Alexander Romanov that appeared to cause the defenseman serious injury with 27.3 seconds to go in their <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/18\/sports\/islanders-road-win-marred-by-late-injury-to-alexander-romanov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3-2 win over the Stars<\/a> on Tuesday night, and Patrick Roy blasted the Finn for a move he saw as \u201cdisrespectful to our guys.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With Romanov\u2019s numbers facing him and both players going full steam toward the end boards, Rantanen pushed Romanov hard into the glass. All I\u2019m gonna say is, when you see the number, you have to lay off. Everybody knows that. You don\u2019t go through the guy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m proud [of] the way that our guys handled it afterwards. No one was happy to see someone get hurt like this. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>Roy, who was coaching the Avalanche when Rantanen was drafted there, did say that such a play was unlike him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not his style. Everyone, I think, our first concern was Rommy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Romanov missed five games earlier this season with an upper-body injury, during which the Islanders called up Marshall Warren to fill in. It would not be surprising if Warren joined the team again for Thursday\u2019s game in Detroit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>David Rittich started in net, despite Ilya Sorokin being the hot hand, and stopped 22 of 24 shots.
